The simple format of Vine allowed users to create six-second videos containing whatever content their hearts desired, although this meant users were exposed to a lot of less-than-inspiring videos.

In 2017 the original Vine app and website officially shut down – but that doesn’t mean this social media platform doesn’t qualify as one of the best.
