In 2001 Universal Pictures distributed The Fast and The Furious. In the following 16 years there have been 7 sequels grossing over $5 billion dollars. This would make it the franchise the 6th highest grossing film series of all time. Impressive numbers for a franchise who’s initial entry was done on a $38 million dollar budget (grossing over $200 million at the box office). Currently there have been a total of 8 releases with #’s 9 and 10 already planned. Obviously not all of them can be winners.
